Hurricane Dolly Cometh
I live in the Rio Grande Valley and Hurricane Dolly is coming this way. Everyone is flooding to the grocery store to pick up bread and milk. I have the strongest urge to do so as well. When I called my mom (who lives in my hometown of KY) to tell her I needed to pick up some bread and milk before the stores run out, she said she couldn’t figure out why at the first hint of disaster people want to dash to the local grocery market and fight each other for bread and milk. I mean, if the electricity goes out, how are you going to keep the milk from going bad? And what about that bread? Are you just going to sit around and eat a bunch of carbs all day as the hurricane roars outside? Do people plan to put some peanut butter or something on it so it won’t be so…well…plain???
This whole hurricane thing has really got me thinking. If I had to be trapped in the house during a hurricane with only one children’s book and a flashlight to read by, what would I choose? Hhhhmmmm. Good question, and almost impossible to answer. Maybe I would choose the Fairytale Detective Sisters Grimm series. That’s a really cool series of books about these two sisters who are descended from the Brothers Grimm, the guys who wrote down all those fairytales way back in the days of yore. The girls go around town trying to solve mysteries in Ferryport Landing, a town where a bunch of angry fairytale characters have been trapped for eternity…and all because of one of the Grimm brothers. Pretty cool..huh? By the way, they’re making the series into a movie. But do yourself a favor and read the books first. Books are always better than the movies that are based on them. Well, that’s all I have to write for now. I’ve got to go out and slug it out for the last loaf of bread and jug of milk.
